Dream Cricket Hits a Six at the Cool School

23/06/2015

On Tuesday 23 June, 36 excited Coolnwynpin students had a fun morning of cricket activities coordinated and run by the Cleveland Rotary Club, and with the support of students from Alex Hills State High School’s Sports Excellence Program. Students were able explore and extend their batting, throwing and catching skills through a range of activities that catered to a broad range of abilities and strengths. It was very exciting to see students challenging themselves, encouraging their peers and bursting with excitement when they achieved! After consistently successfully batting the ball away, Brandon Woodridge summed it all up when he proudly declared, “This is my dream”.

The Dream Cricket program assists school communities to create more opportunities to inspire confidence and self-esteem in our young people. In partnership with the Bradman Foundation, the Dream Cricket has been taken up by Rotary Clubs across Australia and internationally. At first people may think “their children could not play cricket”. However having taken part in a DreamCricket Clinic people quickly realize by the excitement and joy the students express, just what the children can achieve. And… if that wasn’t enough, the Rotary Club of Cleveland kindly donated a full kit of gear to our fantastic school to use, so that the students can continue to develop and show off their new skills and team work. How lucky were we to participate in this great program. Thank you Cleveland Rotary and Alexandra Hills SHS!!! Congratulations Cool School kids. You were awesome.
